Uluru health Care Centre
UHCC
For those in rural India, health care was often inaccessible and/or too expensive for many. In 1998 the Uluru Health Care Centre (UHCC) was established. UHCC runs a primary health clinic serving the 35,000 people in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. On average the doctor will see approximately 200 local people in a week. Besides the one doctor, the clinic has five nurses and two social workers. A pharmacy is also at the clinic.
Because of the cost of maintaining the clinic, in 2017 TEWFI addressed this issue by implementing a nominal fee for services. To consult with the doctor, the charge is RS20 ($.30 US). No charge to see a nurse. An injection is approximately RS 75 ($1.00 US) and tablets are given to the patient at cost. The clinic allows the people of the local communities to be treated for diseases and conditions for which they previously would let go unchecked.

Every rupee can make a difference. Every human can change the world.
Minor Surgery
UHCC has an operation theater where the doctor can perform minor surgeries such as removing a small marble from child’s nose or is able to do blood transfusions.
Paperwork
All patient’s health care is tracked with individual records. All the information is being stored on the computer.
Lab work
Lab work is collected at UHCC and sent to a lab in Pondicherry.
And more paperwork
Forms are needed to process the blood withdrawals. We make sure that each blood test is matched to the correct patient.
Standard procedures
It is routine to take blood pressure, temperature and listen to the heart and lungs.
General checkup
As a precaution many school age children come in to the clinic for a general checkup because the parents want to make sure that their children maintain a healthy life.
